Katerina Xenofontos is a visual artist born in Nicosia. With a degree in Fine Arts from Middlesex University and a MA from Kingston University, the artist explores the field 'Place and Identity' through a special technique that moves from drawing to sculpture and installation.For more than five years she creates drawings on transparent acrylic surfaces (Cast Acrylic)... Elaborated designs that resemble laces... She researches favourably and known traditional laces from different countries and develops incorporated patterns and motifs in her own drawings. Items like these with historical references are the key, inspiration and guide throughout her work...
With passion and commitment to Arts, the artist likes to participate in programmes with children; this allows her to have a better understanding on the relationship between Art, Education and Community. Recent collaborations include the Educational Programmes by Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia such as "Ledra, Lerdos and the Marvelous World of Lace Embroideries" and "Printed Scarves and the Last Scarf Maker", as well her collaboration with the Elementary School Agios Andreas within the programme 'Intangible Culture', a programme run between the Ministry of Education/Culture and UNESCO organisation.
