Migration Creates a Beautiful Mosaic of People (in progress)

RATIONALE & SHORT DESCRIPTIONThe 8th Public Primary School of Limassol (grades 1-3 / 6-9 y.o.) is an urban school, situated near the commercial port of Limassol. The school population consists of Greek-Cypriot students and students from Eastern-Europe and Middle East. Many of the students’ families migrated to Cyprus, either as economic migrants, or as refugees and asylum seekers. The basic idea of the project is to visually explore ideas related to migration, with focus on the reasons, the memories and new ideas that emerge by the co-existence of people from diverse cultural backgrounds. More specifically, the artist, the students, the parents and the teacher will co-create a collaborative artwork that will reflect their ideas, feelings and experiences related to migration, and the ways it has affected their lives. The artwork will be a mixed-media mosaic, as a metaphor for the importance of each individual in a society. TEACHER: MYRO ZEKAARTIST: MANOLIS HATJIMANOLIS
